New Year Goals: Big and Crazy Style

It's that time of the year again! New Years Eve, traditionally the night of taking stock and setting resolutions.

If you've been by my blog for a few years, you'll know I don't do resolutions, though. I set goals. And on my other blog, I check up on my progress every three months to see how I did. December's check is here.

Today, I'm also taking stock of what I did this past month as part of my Big Dreams Bloghop. Most of the goals I set also go toward my long term goal of earning $7500 royalties per month every month.

But first: What I did in December. Honestly, not a ton. Mainly I rested, but I did make some good progress on editing Birds vs Bastards.

Now, here are my goals for 2014. And yes. I know that this is insanely ambitious. But the way I see it, if I get a quarter of my goals done, I will still have achieved a lot.

  1. I hope to read more classics next year too. Or, at least, make an attempt to re-read all of my favourite ones. Good luck with your writing goals! I hope you have a productive 2014. :)

  2. I set goals as opposed to making resolutions, too. Resolutions are too easy to toss aside. I'm still refining my goals for 2014, but once I have them I'll post them on my blog.

    Good luck with your goals!

  3. My feeling is that goals have to be ambitious. And if you reach them all, you didn't set the bar high enough.

Best of luck in the new year, Misha! You're well on your way.

  4. Hi Misha, I don't do resolutions either, but setting goals is good. I believe that successful people don't wait for the new year to reflect, improve and make goals. Have a great New Years Eve!

  7. Excellent goals! This is the first year I've decided not to set myself resolutions - but I'm thinking a few monthly targets instead:) The life goals look just like mine would :)

  10. Super ambitious and I wish you luck with it all! Wish I could have that many WIP going at the same time. I need to work on time management. Happy New Year!

  11. And a Happy New Year to you too, Misha! :)

These are great yearly targets! I'm still really intrigued about 'Birds vs. Bastards'...that title, mhmm...

Anyways looking forward to you knocking these goals out one-by-one!

  12. Wish you the best in reaching all your goals.
The only way to reach your ultimate royalty income is to get completed and published. It's unlikely to happen any other way. Rooting for you!

  13. You are so ambitious. I don't do well with that much structure in my life. It doesn't leave me enough flexibility for creative flow, but I sure admire those who are so focused. I hope you feel a sweet satisfaction of reaching many of your goals.

  15. I love how ambitious you are. If you reach for the stars and miss, you'll still land on the moon. Or something like that. ;) Good luck in the new year!

  16. Ambitious, but inspiring :) 75 books means less than 5 days to read. Hmm... counting weekends, could be a challenge, but I love the idea. I need to up my reading, not to mention everything else you list! All the best in 2014!!

  17. Hi Misha,

You have a healthy attitude, my good friend. For I agree, being insanely ambitious is just fine. If you succeed with just a portion of your goals, that, in its own right, is a success.

Welcome to 2014. May this year be even more fulfilling.

    Gary :)

  18. I love that you have Fencing as a goal for 2014. I fenced in college and had a blast. I might pick it up again, but it's hard to know what the future will bring (and I'm going dancing tomorrow. I only have time and money for one expensive hobby at a time).

Good luck with your goals. They are very ambitious.

  19. Some great goals!! I'm going to try and read more, work on my craft, and work toward eventual publication. I too, set goals instead of resolutions. Happy New Year!!

  21. Wow, Misha...
That's quite the list. From what I've read on your blog all these years, you are a woman of determination and you will get where you want to go!

I wish you all the best this coming year!!!!!

  25. No, those aren't ambitious at all. *sucking Sarcasm back into his box*

Well, shoot for the stars and hit the mountaintops, eh? I'm aiming for reading 100 books, publishing Soulless, publishing the first installment in a serial story, completing Timeless, outlining and completing two more 30K installments for my serial, critiquing at least 5 other people's manuscripts, revising the first book in a companion series, home schooling the kids, keeping ahead of the laundry, holding to a serious exercise routine, and planning healthier meals.

    Here's to an amazing 2014!

  26. Wow! Dream Big!!! Way to Go! Love your goals! I have about 101 resolutions this year . . . really - but some of them are fun like: puddle jumping, skipping, and hugging more people. And then I have about 20 writing goals - very specific. And so on and so forth.
Best wishes in all your endeavors for 2014!!!

  27. If you can get all that done, you're my hero! Hope it's extra inspirational and motivational for you! :D Looking forward to seeing your success!

  28. Wow, ambitious!! I gave up making goals for lent- lol. I kid. I don't make goals but I admire people who do very much. Especially those (like you!) who are so great at keeping those goals. I am better at setting goals and making lists for work- at home things get a little loose. Part of the fallout of having to be too organized at work maybe?

  29. I don't do resolutions, either. I never did care for them! Looks like you've got a busy year ahead of you. Good luck, and Happy New Year!

  32. It can be difficult just trying to keep up with commenting on all the blogs. With so many good intentions, Misha, it makes me feel inadequate. I wish you all the best.

  34. Awesome goals, Misha! You'll get there.
