Guess I'm my own worst critic...

Hey all! Today I'm at Tossing It Out, having tossed out some serious opinion on YA writing. Hope to see you there and read what you had to say!

In the meantime, I thought I'd do a short post about a dream I had:

I woke up and read my e-mails first thing as I always do. In it were two e-mails from agents. I clicked on the one I've been waiting for with bated breath, and this was the message.

Dear Ms. Gericke,

Wow, I have to say this. At the beginning of the query, I was quite keen on your story, but by the end of it, I'd lost all interest in ever meeting any of your characters.

Sincerely,

(Agent name forgotten)

I woke up smiling, quite grateful that I got either form rejections or nice let downs.

Any of you ever dream about queries you didn't send yet?

Nope. But I used to have dreams I went to school only to discover I'd forgotten to wear pant. LOL

  3. Nope. Can't say I have. But it is an interesting dream. Fear is a sneaky little bugger, huh?

  4. Sounds familiar. Mine has the "we loved the title but everything else needs changed" flavor. Ha! We are not alone.

  5. Already visited Lee's today.
Wow, glad I never had that dream!

  6. LOL! Even dreaming about rejection. Ah, the writer's life! Headed over to Lee's....

  7. Actually, I don't dream much related to my writing. Seems odd. Or maybe I just don't remember them, which might be even a bit more odd.

  8. I don't think I've ever had a rejection dream, but I don't tend to remember many, so they might all be rejections!! Glad you never actually received an email like that.

  9. I wonder if any agent every sent out a rejection like that (or wanted to). I haven't sent out anything in so long, since I've decided to self-pub my work. So no rejection dreams by agents. Form letters and nice let downs are much better than that type of rejection. :)

  10. I used to have dreams when I sent queries. I haven't queried an agent in years and have no plans to.

  11. I don't think I am far enough along in the process that queries are rattling in my subconscious. However, that dream isn't surprising at all. It is an indicator of where you are.

  12. I dream all night about writing, then wake up tired. Heading over to Lee's.

  13. Never. I'm too busy dreaming stories.

    Ug. Queries... *shudders*

  14. I dream about doing networking, but never about queries. Yet.

  15. Yes. I had a dream once where I was getting preemptive rejection letters from agencies/publishers I'd never even submitted to. A "We just want you to know ahead of time that we're not interested" kind of thing.

It was not a good morning.

  16. Ha! Yes, I used to dream about agents getting back to me SO enthusiastic about my writing. LOL. That's how I knew it was a dream.

  17. Whew, that's quite the nightmare. Thankfully, I've never had that one.

  18. Crazy. I've never had any querying dreams. I did stay up all night worrying about it though. And the one I received on my birthday wasn't my favorite.

  19. LOL! If that's a dream, I'd hate to meet your nightmares!

  20. I haven't started the query process, yet. I hope I don't dream about it when I do.

  21. Hmmm, maybe the query needs some work? Queries are agonizingly hard. I'm sure you can get some input if you post it here. I'd be happy to give my two cents.

  22. I haven't dreamed about rejections, but I think I remember a dream in which I accidentally had the wrong manuscript published, one that wasn't ready or as good as my best work. That must be an indication of my "am I good enough" anxiety. ;)

  23. I'm sure that once I get to the query stage, I'll be having nightmares about the process. I tend to dream real life stuff all the time.

  24. Human, Misha,

Indeed, you were over at Mr. Alphabet's site and yes, my human left one of his highly cherished comments.

I note you write to an audience. That shows confidence and I know that you would never have such a dream become a reality.

    Pawsitive wishes,

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)
