Yes, I know it's a little late, but it feels a little wrong to be in the month of January without thinking about where I'd like to be by my birthday. I conveniently (or not so conveniently) have my birthday on 28 December, so if my goals aren't done by then...
On the other hand, I think I have made it clear hundreds of times that I don't really like goals... BUT, changing the wording in life (as in writing) can make all the difference. So these are my New Years GUIDELINES in absolutely no order...
I want to finish my first rewrite of Doorways by the end of April or the middle of May.
I want to do this while working.
I want to be back to fluency in French.
I want to revise and study Mandarin.
I want to speak Italian at at least a moderate level by next January.
I want to have written at least half of Guardian by December, but this is of lower Priority, since...
I want to start querying Doorways by next year.
I want to get back to stabbing people for fun. (For those of you that don't know. I'm not completely psycho. I fence.)
I want to be back on my healthy lifestyle by the beginning of February.
I want to stay on that lifestyle indefinitely. Or at least until December. ;-P
I want to finish my degree and get completely out of the previous phase of my life, since this year will pretty much be spent in limbo.
I want to make a stronger commitment to God.
I might or might not want to read the complete works of Shakespeare...
I would really really like to have about 1000 followers by December.
So... as you can see... lots and lots and lots... Think I can do it? What will you like to have a achieved by December?
Gosh, those will keep you SOOOO busy!!! Best of luck with them :)

For someone who doesn't like to write goals, I thought these were nice. And they seemed very doable, except the part about learning 3 different languages. Wow. I'm impressed. You must have a nack for them. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWOW! You are going to be crazy busy but you can totally do it!
ReplyDeleteMisha, Misha, Misha! You aim high! But we believe in you. YOU CAN DO IT.
ReplyDeleteHi there... that's a lot of different language to study... I feel I need to bow on you on that.. I learn little of mandarin and I think you'll enjoy that.. I hope so... because I did kinda enjoy learning mandarin.. but lack of practice lead to nothing so I definitely can't remember 99% of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rach. Yeah I think my year is going to be a bit full...
ReplyDeleteHaha Laura, I think you're right. For once, my goals are steep, but doable. I just need to work out a way to get everything done.
Thanks Melissa. I hope you're right. :-)
Samantha I always do it... aim really high. If these were goals rather than guidelines, I'd be depressed already.
Kamila I love languages and have done about five years of Mandarin. I picked up French in about a month and a half, but when I went to university, I lost a lot of both languages because I don't have anyone to speak them to... But, I'm hoping that will change this year.
Thanks so much for the good wishes guys! :-)
Stay the course. The relationship with God will definitely help in all your endeavors!

You can do it Misha!! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! Good luck on your guidelines!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great goals!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I'd really like to have a solid internet platform (although 1000 followers is a tall order for me! I'm a hermity person). More than numbers, though, I'd like lots of interaction with my bloggy-followers. Elana Johnson has a fantastic platform with lots of interaction, and I really admire that.
I'd really like to get representation this year, as well, and write my first middle grade novel. I totally love middle grade, but it's sort of intimidating for me to write. I think I stumbled across the right elements for this story, though. I love quirky, atmospheric middle grade.
Oh, and the fencing sounds awesome. I wish I'd taken fencing lessons at some point, but I never got around to it. Good luck in 2011! It'll be a great year! :)
That's a big list. I truly hope you achieve the majority on your list. Keep reminding yourself of your wants, and keep striving, and you'll get there. Best of luck for the New Year.

That's a lot of goals! But I'm sure you can do it. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't make specific resolutions this year, because I never achieve them. I have some goals in mind, but I'm trying not to think about them so that I don't jinx myself, ha. :)
Good luck!
Thanks Alex, Colene and Tracy. :-)
ReplyDeleteShayda those are awesome goals. I can't wait to see what you have written. Hint hint nudge nudge wink wink. ;-P And it's never too late to try fencing...
Thanks Lynda. Good advice. :-)
Haha Jessica that's why I don't like calling them goals and resolutions, since those get ignored... But if I make sure I know where I want to be, I know I need to know how to get there. :-)
