Update Day!

Hey all! Today is time for another update to my Big Dreams (call it what you like) bloghop. For those of you who don't know, the blog hop is about insane, or insanely important goals. We share updates on these goals on the last Friday of every month.

You're welcome to join! If you'd like to sign up, please go here.

So... Needless to say, February went off the rails in multiple ways for me.

But just to re-cap:

1) I'll no longer submit to agents.
2) The rewrite that had been the goal went so wrong that I have to draft the entire thing again in order for me to have something to work with. Not only that, but I've had to split the draft in two (ES1 and ES2).
3) I'm still waiting for edits to Wo6C2.

But I have written over 30k this month, counting the rewrite until it went awry. (Which I totally do count.)

Goals for this month:

1) I have a mystery project (MP. Creative, eh?) that's taking the highest priority a draft can take. More on this later. But I actually want to see how far I can get with it in the year. If I finish nothing else, this is the one I want to get done. (With the exception of Wo6C2. Because I want that baby published and soon.)
2) Continue redrafting ES.
3) See if I can actually squeeze in a few words towards my other drafts. I haven't touched them since November last year.

So now, this is what my current and planned year looks like:

How are your goals coming along?

BEFORE YOU GO!

I just want to let you know that I joined up with the lovely people at Unicorn Bell. I have the run of the blog this coming week (3-7 March) and I'll be critting query letters, first chapters and synopses. You can even send me all three, if they're for the same story. In fact, I quite prefer it. If you'd like a keen eye on your submission package, please contact me unicornbellsubmissions(at)gmail(dot)com. Please not that this isn't my usual e-mail address.

Have a great weekend all! XX

  3. Wow, you have loads going on Misha. I missed something, why won't you no longer query or submit to agents? Good Luck in the next months Goals!

  4. Wow, how do you get so much done? I feel so inefficient. Good luck on your goals.

  5. 30k in a month is astonishing!

  6. You are really organized! That's interesting that you are no longer submitting to agents. I'm curious if you had some problems with one, or if there's some other reason.

  7. Pardon my recent absence and lack of Goals post. I pre-booked a review post without taking this meme into account. I'm a dope! You are firing ahead as always Misha. Sorry things are strained (at least they sound strained) and I hope you kick bootie where ever nec.

  8. I would do a goal update, but it would only prove how lame I am. I have been "swearing" to do a newsletter since July. Still no progress.

    But you go lady!!

  9. Your planning looks so organised. I love keeping spreadsheets, but I often spend more time creating plans, schedules, and trackers than I do actually achieving any writing! Good luck with March!

  10. Good luck with your mystery project! And I hope March is a much better month for you than February was. But getting 30k written is amazing! Congrats!

  11. As far as my own writing is concerned, there was no February this year. But it's nice to see SOMEONE is getting stuff done.

  12. Great that you're able to set goals and adjust them. I'd go mad if I didn't do that. Thumbs up, Misha.

  13. I'm not sure what impresses me more, your spreadsheet or the amount of work you have on it. I feel like a shirker.

  14. You wrote way more than me this month! Why are you no longer subbing agents?

  15. Congrats on still writing. Goal changes are a part of life, no matter what keep moving forward Misha.

  16. I commend you on being so disciplined and organized! You've already accomplished so much, that I'm sure your mystery project will be a success.

  17. Great goals Misha. I am way behind in my goals :(

  18. Things which go awry definitely count. Sometimes the only way to know if something will work is to write it.

  19. Hi Misha,

I have the impression that a mystery project will be a nice, positive distraction. Your planning seems impeccable. I try not to plan too much. In my case, it can mess up my spontaneity.

Relax and enjoy your Sunday. That's an order! :)

  20. Congrats on your word count! That's awesome. I won't submit to agents either.

  21. Wow, love the spreadsheet! Am hopeless at multi-tasking myself, just get obsessed with one particular project until another one rears its head. Then I tend to just abandon the first project and move on. Your way is far more sensible.

  22. Oh my goodness, you even have a spreadsheet. I need to learn these skills! I feel terribly inefficient right now.

  23. That's a big step- deciding not to query agents. I'm really excited to see how the rest of the year pans out for you. I'm also really impressed, maybe terrified, of how organized you are about all of this. Good for you! *ducks and hides because I can't find an organized part of my brain*

  24. 30k is VERY impressive! I'm proud of you, and I know you'll accomplish your goals. My goal is to stop feeling guilty every time I "steal" time away from my dissertation to write fiction; I always feel better after I write even just a few pages of fiction.
