Before I start on today's post, I just want to ask that you check out yesterday's announcement. I'd love it if you took part!
Okay, so for those of you who don't know, the Insecure Writer's Support Group is a monthly bloghop where we writerly types come together and share our insecurities and encouragements as needed. The awesome thing about doing this is that, if nothing else, we realize we're not alone in our troubles. Better yet is when we get some tips or advice that actually make things better. Anyone's welcome to join. Just click here.
So... I'm glad to say I'm still insecurity free on the main, although there's this growing niggle. It sounds like this:
What? June Already?!
See I want to release three books at the end of the year. Two in October and one sometime before the end of December. And as lovely as this sounds in my brain, I can't believe that so much of the year has whizzed by.
And I'm starting to worry that the rest of the year will fly by as fast, leaving me with my projects unfinished yet again. (I'm not even going to go into the fact that most of my goals have been forced to the wayside thanks to my former publishing house.)
Point is, the only writing goals that stand a chance of getting done are getting those three projects ready and published.
I made the call of cutting myself some slack on editing, I know, since I'd been spinning my wheels for months. The thing is, there's only so much slack left before I miss my deadlines.
Ugh. Anyway that's the niggle that's growing into more and more of a worry as I write about it.
So now I'm just going to stop.
Anyone else feeling keenly aware of the year slipping away from us?
Time is flying by and showing no signs of slowing down. Ambitious goals, but you can do it. I have reserved spots with my editor and cover artist, so I have to meet my deadlines or delay working with these amazing people. That keeps me on track.
ReplyDeleteI hear you! I have a book in a series that's coming out very soon. Originally I'd planned for it to be pubbed months ago. But "real life" got complicated and I couldn't meet my goals. I was feeling pretty discouraged about it. But then, I reminded myself that I actually ought to be grateful that in spite of everything, I didn't give up. I persevered. And that's worth celebrating.
ReplyDeleteMy advice, Misha, celebrate. In spite of all the frustrations and set-backs this year, you are making progress!
But on the other hand, it's ONLY June! And the beginning of it, at that! There's loads of time, you just need to sit down and take up the slack again. Maybe, don't worry about the December goal for the moment, though?
ReplyDeleteDeep breath! Focus on those three that are done. And count them. After what you've been through, you should!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's June already - this year is going by super-fast!
ReplyDeleteYou're still making progress. You can do this! :)
Cannot believe it's already June!! Good luck with those goals ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have about 4 months: that's a book a month with a week of revision on each. Mind boggling. You must be persistent from here on out.
ReplyDeleteAwesome to think you will have three books coming out! So glad you're back in the groove again after all you went through in the past several months. If anyone deserves to cut themselves some slack you do.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am definitely aware of the year slipping away and trying not to panic about it.
3 books. WOW! You're close to you goal! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally feel like the years is slipping away. I try my best to keep up. Some days are better than others. :)
The good thing is, you can reset your goals if need be. No need to rush just to make them.
ReplyDeleteMy days, weeks, and months just fly by. It makes me sad how fast time passes. But it's summer now, well it is in the states. Do you have year round summer?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had these grand ideas for doing something big in june. Here it is, june, and guess what I'm not doing. I guess other things got in the way, and now I have plans for august, but seriously, could my life be more of a disaster? Well, enough of that whining. The year is just trying to skip by, and I have no leash to pull it back in.
ReplyDeleteYup. I can't believe it's already summer vacation. (Kids' last day of school is tomorrow. 0_0) But I'm on track, so it's not so bad for me. I've set a bit of an ambitious deadline for fall, but I think I can make it. *shrugs* If not, I'm self-pub and this will be a softer release, so I have wiggle room.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals. Make a to-do list and keep yourself on track. Maybe you'll surprise yourself!
IWSG #215 until Alex culls the list again.
The year is flying by! I feel like I was supposed to have so much more done by now. You've still got time to finish your goals. Just stay focused!
ReplyDeleteYes, time it flying! It's looking harder and harder to make my year goals, unfortunately, so much of the process depends on other people. Sometimes I just have to learn patience.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I had the goal of three books as well but as you said, the year is flying by. I'm just not sure I can do it, so I'll at least aim for two. I'm glad you've made the decision on the edits, I'm sure it was the right call. No way you'd settle for the sake of settling. Best of luck with your goals! :D
ReplyDeleteYes! I wanted to have my second book out by this time (actually by last month) but edits are getting in my way. I can't believe it's June already and I have a busy summer head. Yikes... I like your goal of three books by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteI'm always aware of all of the time going by. Every so often, I just have to cut things out as opposed to getting more and more behind on everything.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't believe the year is half over already, but I'm still keeping to my goal of self-publishing my book by the end of the year. Best of luck with your three books!
ReplyDeleteThe year does seem to be flying by. Good luck getting your goals accomplished!
ReplyDeleteTime does seem to be zooming past these days. It's exhausting.

Moody Writing
Yes, this year is FLYING by!! Ergh!! It needs to slow down some.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. This year is zooming by. I wanted to be querying two novels at this point, but I've only got one out there.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that we're almost halfway through the year.
ReplyDeleteWhat? June already? How did that happen???
ReplyDeleteMy way of saying, yeah, I know and sympathize.
It's funny how you can look at it. I was in a big hurry for Summer to get here and that seemed to take forever, but when I look at it writing-wise...I'm like, ugh...I need to get another book out.
ReplyDeleteUhh...yes. It's hard to believe it's June sometimes. June!
ReplyDeleteI was just having this conversation with my sister when she pointed out that E3 (a video game convention) is happening this coming Monday. It only felt like yesterday that we stayed up late for last year's live coverage. xD
I totally believe you could publish 3 books. A few questions to consider though: Do you have the stories done? Are they currently in editing stage? And if you're not done writing, are these novella-length stories or full-length novels (or a mix)?
Anyways, I've seen you hash out your schedule on Excel, and I really don't see you not succeeding, Misha. You can do this!
It flies even faster as you get older. You blink, and a month passes. A yawn an six months whizz by. Take a nap and you're celebrating a new year AGAIN....
ReplyDeleteSO try to cram in as much work in a day as you can. I never seem to get through all the stuff I need to and I'm up a 6.00am until after Midnight! So where do all those hours go? Hell if I know. LOL.
Yes! I had plans to finish up my second novel by this time, and start seeking out critique partners. Thanks to a major rewrite in the first book, I've had to change a slew of things in the second one. What writing time was manageable with one child has also disappeared with the addition of another. Where does all the time go?
ReplyDeleteWow, 3 books. That's a lot! But yeah, 2014 is almost half over already, and it seems it's JUST begun! Weird. Yeah, and editing is really time-consuming--and necessary. You don't want to rush that part. :) Enjoy your summer!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the 3 books and you should cut yourself some slack since you have accomplished so much. 2014 was busy for me with several contracts and one book out, and another two on the way.
ReplyDeleteI know that angsty feeling of time tick ticking away. I woke up this morning, first day of summer break, and thought, "I didn't finish writing my play!" Ahhhhh! It's a stupid panic. I need to schedule the time no matter how many boys are hanging around here all day raiding my fridge. I do need to go to the grocery more often, however.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'd love to be part of your Monday interviews.
Cheers! We'll get it done. Goals are good. Panic is not.
I know exactly what you mean. I set a schedule for myself for the summer to try to make up for time lost this past spring - and I'm behind already. Yikes. I need to double up this weekend or I'm never going to get anything finished.
ReplyDeleteHi Misha,
ReplyDeleteGoals have to taken in stride. A pace that works without pressure. What year is it? LOL
Have a nice weekend and Merry Christmas!
Gary :)
I started thinking much the same thing when we hit June. How am I going to finish what I want done this year now that it's almost over. Arg!
ReplyDeleteYes, time and life are flying by!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how fast this year is going either! It's absolutely crazy! I have a goal of finishing my first book by the end of summer at the latest, but that's going to be a pinch compared to your goals :P! Don't get too worked up by it - try your best, but if you have to push your schedule back for a few weeks, that's fine too :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely hear you! Time (or lack of it) is pretty a constant on my list of anxieties.
