Insecure Writer's Support Group

Sorry for only posting now. I'm bit out of the blogging routine now that I haven't blogged for about a week.

But, here I am. Back.

And... with pretty much nothing to post about. See, I haven't been editing, because I'm waiting for another CP to send back my work. As for really writing, I've got such a massive stack of notes now (900 pages and counting) that sorting through it is eating all of my time.

Still... I've learnt some very interesting things about three of my main characters. So at least now I know why Callan makes certain choices that I knew she'd make but couldn't understand. Or Darrion, for that matter. I also know how Gawain will react to these choices.

So at least I can say that I haven't really wasted most of a month. And yet, sometime really soon, I'm going to have to get back to working on the actual writing.

My muse and Darrion are sort of leaning on me to get going.

Have you ever done something else constructive that helps your writing, but isn't writing, only to feel sucky because you haven't actually written?

  1. That's where I am right now. I'm not writing because I'm revising, but I don't seem to be revising very much ...

  2. Hey - I'm new to IWSG but wanted to say that I'm glad we're not along in our crazy deadline quest! I almost felt guilty for joining the group and not writing.. but I figure it genuinely might help us so decided it was OK!

Best of luck with your June deadline - that's like ages away, right? ;) S

  3. That would be blogfests, useful writing and yet, not actual writing

  4. I always feel sucky when I'm not actually writing, but the fact is it's sometimes necessary to take a break from the writing so that your brain can put all those pieces together that are floating around your subconscious -- like the motivation for your character!

  5. Oh yeah...all the time. I'm working on my writer's retreat, which is great for my future... but wait! Isn't my writing my future too?

  6. I think most of us have felt that way at some time. At least you're doing something to help your writing. I've had plenty of times when there hasn't been time for writing, or anything that will help my writing, either. :)

  7. Yep. And I sometimes end up feeling guilty. But you've got to work with the way your brain and creativity function. I've tried to work differently (i.e., more efficiently)...what a disaster.

  8. Oh yes, I have found that any other creative activity really gives an impulse to my writing practice :)

  9. I agree blog fests, or i used to like sitting on a bus observing people, and from nothing but their clothes and the way they were sitting figure out what kind of person they were. Doing that was fun but I only got one single short story out of people watching. A short piece for my first blog.

  10. I've actually been focusing on my writing a lot more on my novel than anything else. I've been slacking off though on my blog posts. So if it's not one...it's the other.

  11. It's kind of a busy time of year. I know for me...it's just a struggle to keep things balanced.

  12. While waiting for betas, the hardest part of writing for me happens. That is the period of no creative activity and that leaves me frustrated to move on but alas, it's all good because when I finish the book up, I'm ready to go on.

  13. Hi Misha, I’m new to the IWSG family and wanted to introduce myself, #260. Since I was tagged in a little game of “Lucky 7,” I thought it would be fun to extend my tag to you. Please check out my blog when you get a chance. :)
