I was planning to answer tag questions, but I'm neck deep in revisions so...

Hi all! Just want to advise you to pencil in 24 June. There's an Amazon voucher being given away...

So... revisions.

Interesting things... I was demoralized on Sunday because I didn't get as far as I'd thought I would.

Then today happened and I'm at page 51 of 467. Now that might not sound all that spectacular, but if you put in in proportions, I've done one ninth of my first round revisions in four days.

And the day hasn't ended yet.

I think I can get first round out of my way in three to four weeks if things keep going well.

But I have to work my hide off now, just in case some of those days are difficult.

So... That's me for today. Sorry that this is so short. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't been abducted by aliens or anything like that. I'm... just being possessed by my characters.

Normal procedure, really.

See you all tomorrow!

Ooh! I'm dying to know: How are you all doing? Who's doing a first draft? Rewrite? Editing?

  1. I think you're doing great progress on your revisions. I'm dreadfully slow with them. I'm still on the rewrite/edit phase for Virtuoso, but lately I've been doing more of my freelance editing jobs. I have real deadlines for them and only self-imposed ones for Virtuoso, so you can guess which ones I'm doing first. *laughs* Keep at it. It's a slow progress but so worth it.

  2. I'm doing rewrites and edits. Got a call and several e-mails from my editor. More cutting and chopping to do. OMG.

  3. I'm doing revisions after receiving feedback from a beta reader. I want to be finished by the end of the month. :)

    Happy revisions!

  4. Revisions can beat you down at times, but just remember, you wrote the story, so you can take control. :) 51 pages in is aweseome!

Right now I'm working on a first draft. Not very far in, we had my husband's squadron picnic and then my daughter fell sick and I followed shortly after!

  5. Well my friend I spelled it out on my blog so you can go there for the down & dirty. So far the week has started out OK and hopefully it will continue. Good luck on the revision.

  6. You revise all the time. Is it possible that you are revising this WIP thing completely into the ground? I mean...Misha...for as long as I've been following your've been revising and editing.

  7. good job, misha! I'm so excited to start working on a new first draft but I have to get all this querying and synopsis out of the way first for my recent work. ah well. :)
keep on going. before you know it, you'll be finished with your first draft :)

  8. Hi Misha! Your really moving along, that's great! Revisions are usually the part I dread and it takes me the longest to finish up. I always get distracted by other things. Can't wait to read Doorways! :)

  9. I'm hauling a** to the end of my WIP. I write a pretty clean first draft, but. . .I've got to finish the darned this first! I want to be finished by the end of June. . .no rest for the weary! (:

    Great job on the revisions!

  10. First draft for me, and hang in there! We'll all been there and there's light at the end of the tunnel.

  11. Good job on revisions! Hang in there. I'm on a first draft--just started it only about 2k words into it. This is always the scary part for me, wondering if the ideas and characters will sustain the novel or if they'll die out.

  12. Revisions can be SO ROUGH. Good luck with all of yours!

I'm currently on know, I lost track of how many times I've read and edited this book. 10? 15? 20? Anyway, I'm rereading and editing one of my books again in preparation for self-publishing it. Once I'm done with that, I'm going to dig in and get back to writing my next novel.

You'll get through your book and it will all be worth it! You may feel like throwing it against the wall by the time you're done, but sometimes that's part of the process. ;)

  13. Once I figure out how people manage to pull off 8 hour work days then come and write I'm going back into the editing trenches. The thought of no homework has my dancing with glee. Sorta sad really that my lack of classes has lead to an uptake in the writing. Senior year is weird like that.

  14. Hehehe Cherie, I can imagine how busy you are. Good luck with deadlines, both real and self-imposed. :-)

Ooh Shelly, it sounds almost painful. Good luck!

Hope you get it done, Stina.

Ah yes, Caitlin, rewrites can be a challenge. Especially when life gets in the way.

I hope the week goes on to become better than ok, Odie. :-)

Hehehe no Michael. I'm polishing it to a shine.

Nut, it must be such a challenging situation to worry about querying while trying to write a new book. Good luck!

Amy I dreaded it too, but I find it satisfying to see how much better the story is becoming.

That's great, EC! I hope that you get it done in time!

Thanks, Angela! Good luck with your first draft!

Connie it is a scary thought. I find it a lot more daunting now that I have finished a story.

Wow, Laura that's a lot of rounds! Good luck with the polishing!

Hehe Steph I remember that from university. I actually write before the day starts. Then I'm bright-eyed and bushy tailed when I write. Then I just sleep a bit earlier. :-)

  16. I echo the other posters in wishing you good luck on revisions. I finished draft one of my novel-in-progress today and printed it off to marinate. It is sitting in a binder marked "Do not open until July 20." I'm waiting 6 weeks to start the editing process, and who knows how long it will take after that.

  17. Lol Lucy I have no idea what's happening. My hit count on this blog quadrupled last night. I'd think it's a blogger error if my other blog hadn't stayed relatively normal. But my guess is that the people that came to visit me saw the your link on my blog roll. ^_^

Anna that's a good strategy. I waited four weeks and it helped tons.
