Today was cleaning day, as family and friends will be arriving for my mother's birthday tomorrow. So after baking the cakes and delicious things, the rest of the day was pretty much spent washing floors.
It's not my most favorite thing in the world, but I at least got some time and mindless activity that allowed me to think about my June 30 goal.
I still need to finish the WiP2 rewrite before I start Doorways edits, since I won't have time for it later. So that means that the WiP2 rewrite has to be done by about 31 January. I'm about a quarter of the way through it, but since I did most of it in ten days, I don't think my goal is all that impossible.
That way, once I am finished with Doorways, I have another story to edit and one to finish drafting, whichever I feel like doing first.
In the long run, I always want a project in the mail somewhere. For that to happen, I have to lay the foundation now.
Then I want to finish Don't Look Back before the end of 2012. Hopefully I'll be on the Doorways sequel by 2013? We'll have to wait and see.
What about you? Have you set yourself any deadlines for next year? Let's hear them.
I'm participating in #writemotivation with KT Hanna so I have an end-of-Jan 2012 goal of finishing the rewrite of 2 WiPs. Plan to buckle down and really do it.
ReplyDeleteHave loads of fun with the family and Happy Birthday wishes to your mother.
Good for you. I'm still prevaricating. I'm thinking maybe a novella and two short stories a month. I'm working my way up to long fiction. How I envy you guys who can write novel length.
ReplyDeleteJust to finish the first draft by the end of January. After that...do some revisions, maybe some readers, more revisions, possibly a query by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is February 1st, but I finished writing the book about a year ago. Everything is revisions now. Good luck Misha, you'll make it!
ReplyDeleteGood goals! No, it's not too early. I already know mine, too--exercise more and get a publisher. LOL A personal deadline I have more control over is to finish revising my WIP. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's too early! I usually start setting my goals the day after Christmas. But I am thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2012. Can't believe it's another year soon already. Time flies when you grow up!
ReplyDeleteOooh! You are early! I was going to do this at the end of the year:D These are great goals, Mish! I'm sure you'll meet these goals and surpass them.
ReplyDeleteHave a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I remember when you wanted to finish DOORWAYS, and then it was editing. AND NOW you're really going to get into it :) it's cool to see your progress!
ReplyDeletehopefully I'll write my own "how did I do on my 2011 goals?" and "what're my 2012 goals?" posts soon :)
I don't think it's too early--I've been mulling over some of my own goals for 2012.
ReplyDeleteAs for deadlines, I want to re-read (all 1000 pages--ugh) of my first novel which I finished last February during the month of January and rework the plot. Then I'm planning on rewriting/editing it from February-June.
Great goals! Hmmm. I haven't thought about all of 2012 yet, just the immediate future. So, just throwing some dates out there, I'd like to have the edits done and be query ready with my second novel by the end of March. I also want to draft a middle grade novel I've outlined, and rewrite my first novel... need to work on timelines for those :)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I've got half the alphabet to go with Literary agents. I'm going to do one huge push to attract an agent...and if not...it's self pub for me. But I confess...that scares me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the best at setting myself goals, but here goes: I will read research material every day until I find the next story. Research material includes nonfiction and fiction since I strongly suspect I completely emptied the creative tank writing the last book and am now in the process of refilling it. I'm composting. LOL Every. Single. Day. I will also continue the search for an agent. Sigh. Good for you cleaning all day. I've been trying to get me and the family to commit to ten minutes a day, but it's not easy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a lovely birthday time with your Mother. I'm not making any plans/resolutions this year. Last year's plans were cut short by the death of my Mum and so I'm going to let things happen as they happen in 2012.
ReplyDeleteHere's to a healthy new year for us all.
My goal for 2012 is to make it through the year without hospitals and redundancy threats… both of those aren’t really writing goals and truthfully out of my control but they are the reasons I hardly got a thing done this year so fingers crossed. :)
ReplyDeleteWriting wise I need to get Candy as good as I can by June and want to start on one of the two stories I’m currently outlining.
Good luck for yours and thank you for stopping by my blog to check up on me, I really appreciate it.
