Update Day: How I Did in June

Hi everyone! This is the last Friday of the month, which means it's time to update on my progress. For those of you who are new to my blog, Beth Fred and I host a bloghop where the entrants share their big, important or just crazy goals. Then once a month, we post updates on how we're doing, and encourage each other.

If you'd like more information, or to visit some other people who are taking part, feel free to click here.

So my goals for June have been rather simple in theory. I simplified things as much as possible to help me get my two books published. Alas, my business (as in my day job) is still confounding me around every corner.

Honestly, I can't complain. It's a good thing that my business is showing movement and growth. It's just a lot more difficult to manage two new businesses (because that's what my publishing gig is too) when both are entering a high maintenance phase.

Anyway, this is how I did:

My Goals in June:

1) For TVK and THC: Finish everything that needs to get finished for the final formatted submissions by mid-June.
Didn't make this. In fact, I'm not hoping to get this done before the end of the month.

2) Send out review copies by mid-June. (Or a week after that if I must.)
This can only happen when I complete #1.

Read enough to keep sane, but other than that, no set goal.
Good thing I didn't set a goal. I started a book in week 1, and haven't been able to read it since.

Social Media:

1) Get started on the materials needed for the blog tour.
I've done some of the interviews, but I really need to get cracking with this.

2) Continue with the stuff I’ve been doing because it seems to be working.
Tried in between work stuff, but most of my available time went into prepping my books.

Basically to keep growing my business and not go insane while I’m putting myself through a publishing hell of my own creation. Which might mean letting off steam with other crafts.
Did the growing my business part. I did get a bit of crocheting done.

My Goals for July:

1) If my submissions aren't done by the end of the June, I want them done by end of the first week of July.
2) Ditto for review copies being sent out.
3) As soon the two above are done, I want to work on something new. Preferably a rough draft. I might join CampNano, but I'll see toward the end of June.
4) Edit my short story for my Untethered Realms Anthology.

1) Finish the book I'd started.
2) Read other books. Not giving myself a goal as to how many, because I know things are going to go nuts once my books are published.

Social Media:

1) Send out all materials and guest posts etc for my blog tour.
2) Maintain my web presence as far as humanly possible.

1) That Europe trip is still in the pipeline, but will possibly happen in July. I want to get all necessary things done before my plane takes off from Cape Town.
2) I want to recover from the publishing pressure by doing some other arts/crafts.
3) Continue to grow my business.

That's pretty much me for today. How are you doing? Wish me luck! And don't forget to sign up if you have a big goal to chase after.

  1. Great steps and achievements in June, and hopefully July will be much more better for you. Great goals, and truly achievable too. Best wishes with everything.
My goals are going great as well, and looking forward to the new month ahead!

  2. Do I detect a little frustration, Misha? Hope you have a better month in July, but don't kick yourself. You're doing great. :)

  3. Wow, all that and you're going on a trip in the middle of the month? Hey, as hard as you've been working, a break sounds like a good idea.

  4. "-publishing hell of my own creation." Haha! I feel you there.

I hope you can meet all or most of your goals (the most important ones) in July.

  5. Ohhh? Crocheting? How did that go? I've been meaning to learn, but honestly I don't see myself starting this year.

Hopefully your "hell" will start to pay off, soon and in total big time! I find most journeys start to get difficult when they're nearing the end (although seriously, most of us know it isn't about just publishing the book. There's the marketing...) Anyways, you're at one end almost -- the big end of getting 'TVK' out there by the close of July.

So here's to July going your way and making things easier than June. ^^

  6. Sounds like you're doing better than you think you are. Remember to celebrate everything you do achieve, even if it isn't on your list of goals. Good luck for July.

  7. It sounds like you're doing a pretty good job to me! Good luck getting everything completed, but don't beat yourself up too much if something doesn't happen - there are only so many hours in a day, and you need to relax too. YAY FOR EUROPE!! Hope you have a fabulous time!!

  8. Good luck with the July goals, hope it all goes well :)

Where in Europe are you taking a trip? That will be fun, you'll have a fabulous time I'm sure!

  9. Life can surely get in the way of goals, but it sounds like you are squaring off on some of them. Congrats with both businesses and good luck! Have a great weekend!

  10. Good luck with your goals!

I was doing quite well with mine before we set off to visit friends and family in the west country. All work stopped for that. Oh well, we had a great time and maybe I can catch up a bit over the next few days.

  11. Ooh, Europe trip! Can't wait to follow your blog tour :-)

  12. It's so smart to set up these monthly goals. I need to do that more completely.

  13. I guess it pays to be 'loose' with your goal setting, sometimes, to give yourself some leeway. :) At least you started a book!

I seem to have just give up all focus on any of my goals, really - except the reading one. I'm reading. But I'm 4 books behind my yearly goal!

  14. Sounds like you've been doing well, even if there have been a few hiccoughs along the way.

And I'm kind of glad that you've not been able to send out the review copies yet because I'm horribly behind on my reading. You're giving me time to catch up. ;-)

  15. All the best achieving your goals in July. I think you do a lot more than you give yourself credit for. You always work so hard. Good-Luck!

  16. Wow! Way to go for June!
    And, best wishes with July!

    Have fun on that trip!

  17. Hit me up for your blog tour, eh? One day at a time.

  18. I said I'd get caught back up. And BOO-YAH, here I am. Like the Little Engine that Could over here. Woo!

Get your #1 June writing goal done. I'm eagerly awaiting the read. :) And all 4 of those sweet July writing goals need to be tackled!

I believe in you. Keep kicking goal butt.

  19. Thanks, Blogoratti!

Shah, I was indeed frustrated. I'm doing better now that I'm making more tangible progress.

That's true, Alex. I'm still watching and waiting to see exactly when I'm going, but it'll be nice. Even if it's still work.

Thanks Chrys, I feel like I might actually succeed in the publishing related ones by this (or at the latest next) weekend.

Hana, crocheting is super easy and very relaxing. I'm thinking I'll do a bit of it this weekend. :-)

That's true, Angeline. And the funny thing is that things have been falling in place again since posting this, so I'm back to being a happy camper. (Albeit one possibly with an ulcer.)

    Thanks, Rachel!

Celine, we're still making appointments (and trying to miss a bit of the summer holiday so we can catch people at the office), but right now, it looks like England, France, the Netherlands and possibly Romania.

Ravyne, that's true. I've been checking a lot of things off on my to-do list already, and it's all stuff that I *just* didn't get done by the end of June.

I know the feeling, Patsy. Visiting might not seem all that time consuming. Until we do it while having a ton of stuff to do. I try not to think about that while with family, though. Because time with family is so precious.

    Thanks Deniz.

Catherine, do sign up for my bloghop. It helps. Really. Ask anyone on the list. ;-)

Lee-way is important, Trisha. I'd be utterly demoralized if I didn't give myself some wiggle room on my goals.

Hahaha Cait, I hope you caught up by the time I sent you your copies. ;-P

Murees, that's true. Sometimes, I do a lot, but it doesn't feel like it because they weren't the things I planned to achieve.

    Thanks, Tyrean!

Mailed you, Crystal. Thanks for offering. :-)

Well done, J. Got #1 done. Hope you enjoy the read.
