I've decided to open this thing up...

Beth Fred got me thinking. See, she's so enthusiastic that she actually suggested that I open up a linky list for anyone else who wants to start tilting at windmills with me.

I was still thinking about this when I read the post she wrote in response to mine. It made me realize that while I'm the first one insane enough to put a mad, almost impossible goal out there, I'm not the only one with a dream.

So. I'm going to put up a list where we insane dreamers can come into touch with each other.

If you want to join in, you're more than welcome to. All you need to do is write what you want to do. It can be anything. From finishing that Masters Degree in Creative Writing, to finishing those edits you were putting off for years. Anything. You get to make the goal and you get to choose when you'd like it done by.

How this will work:

1) Beth and I will be co-hosts of this list.
2) If you do enter your link into the list, please be supportive of the other entrants.
3) Keep us up to date with how you're doing. Update Day is on the last Friday of every month. Even if you don't think you achieved much or anything, write a quick post to say so. We can't encourage if we don't know.
4) When you enter your blog's address write your goal as the link title. For example, my link's title will be "earn $7500 per month." Not your name or your blog's. This is so we can keep track of who's doing what. AND it will serve as an easy indication of the fact that you're not the only crazy one.
5) Please please please spread the word! I know this is nuts, but I know a lot of people need encouragement, and making a decision and figuring out how to get there is half the battle...

Who else has a crazy goal?
If you do, complete the following:

I WANT TO...

Ok, for what it's worth - I'm IN!

My goals aren't nearly as ambitious as yours, but every journey starts with a single step, Rome wasn't built in a day and [INSERT GENERIC CLICHE HERE]

I'll spread the word. Good luck!

It's great you and Beth have such ambitious goals. Anything that helps you get up everyday and write is good. I just hope you remember that measuring your success on a financial scale isn't the only way to find success or happiness.

This is such a cool idea...now if I could come up with a goal!

Great plan! I have year-by-year writing goals but it would be nice to have something to steer toward: an ultimate, concrete goal, as it were. I'll try to come up with something and return here when I do.

The money isn't a measure of happiness for me. Far from it. Basically I could have said I want to finish four books a year. Or I want to publish all my books.

But the fact is that I want more than that. I want to finish four books, but if I can do more, I want to. I want to publish books of high quality. So the only way I can motivate myself is to use a measure of quality and speed. And although it's far from an accurate measure, setting a high monetary goal is the only way I could think of. It's sort of a way to let the reader decide whether what I did is good enough.

My ultimate goal is to win the Man Booker Prize. I'm not sure I want to remind myself monthly how far away I am from that goal (I also plan to be in my 50s). But good luck to you and everyone who signs up :-)

Good luck with your 5year project.
My thoughts? You are a go-getter, so for you, lack of action isn't a factor... and that means half the battle is already won.

Good luck! I'm not anywhere near ready to set a goal like that but I think it's great that you are!

You know what? We started with smaller goals too! God luck!

Hi, Misha,

What a FUN idea! I'd have to give it some thought..... but certainly is a wonderful goal to help others fulfill their dreams and INSANITIES....

Hmmm. I have to figure out what goal I'd want to put out there but in the meantime I'll gladly cheer everyone else on.

I think its a great idea, especially if you want to commitment yourself to something to always wanted to do. I hope I can keep up.

Misha Gericke said...

Thanks for joining in, Nobu. :-) Even if you don't keep up, you'll probably manage to get a lot more done. Best of luck!

I have many insane ideas...when I narrow my focus I will come back and sign up!
Fun idea-love it! Be bold-always a good way to live!

Goodness, I have such tunnel vision right now that to pause and establish accountability will throw me off my game. Must keep working! (Says the woman who's perusing the blogosphere rather than editing. Gah!)

Way to encourage people!

What an awesome goal! They say one of the best ways to keep a goal is to tell others about it, so they keep reminding you. Go for it Misha!

I entered my nutty goal. First step is to see my monthly sales rise. I fear Bookbub recently wore off. Biting my nails.

Thanks for spreading the word! :-)

Smaller steps can add up to bigger things. Best of luck!

Misha Gericke said...

I hope you do! :-D

Misha Gericke said...

I also do year by year goals, but I'm really liking this longer term plan idea. :-)

Misha Gericke said...

Hahaha yeah that is a long term goal. Still, I'm sure you can do it with patience and learning. :-)

Misha Gericke said...

Haha yeah I just hope I don't kill myself in the effort. :-P

Misha Gericke said...

You'll get to the same point one day. :-)

Misha Gericke said...

I hope you can join in!

Misha Gericke said...

Always appreciated. :-D

Misha Gericke said...

Glad you like the idea. :-)

Misha Gericke said...

Hahahaha keep working. :-D

Misha Gericke said...

Yep. That's definitely the principle I'm going for. That's why I have a countdown timer up there. :-D
