Lazy day

I'm not quite where I want to be with my editing, but that's fine. I'm finally getting back to working office hours at the day-job.

This isn't really troublesome, since often my job has plenty of waiting periods where I can get some writing/editing/blogging/whatever else I need to do in. (I work for my family firm, working from our house, in case you were wondering how I got this lucky.)

Today, though, is a bit of a tough one because of the cake decorating course I'm taking. Don't get me wrong. It's fun and really interesting. But the classes are long and often require more intense concentration than you'd think.

So tonight... I'm going to kick back and not feel guilty.

I don't need to, because tomorrow's South Africa's presidential elections, which means the whole country shuts down (again). Good for me because it'll probably take me a few minutes to vote, and I'll have the whole day to edit. So I can still finish The Vanished Knight's edits by tomorrow.

Just not by forcing myself to try and edit tonight, and then not concentrating which means I have to redo it all again tomorrow.

Sometimes, it really is more efficient to not work at something.

Anyone else editing? How's it going?

  1. Your country shuts down for presidential elections? Ours doesn't! When I worked for government, we were allowed to either come in 30 minutes late or leave 30 minutes early to vote, but we were expected to work as always.

    1. It's a public holiday here, so people can work, but then they have to be paid overtime. :-D

  3. Editing is always better when you're happy to be doing it...or at least not hating it while doing it.

  4. I'm revising right now, so I feel you. It's always great to take the day off, especially when there's no guilt and it's a random holiday. :)

  6. You have time. Relax, do other things then get back to editing in good time.

  7. My editing has turned to rewriting as I realized part of my world needed more worldbuilding done. So I've been concentrating on that these past couple of weeks.

  8. Sometimes, you just need a break to relax and recharge. Enjoy it!

and i really liked your commentary yesterday about the trend romances are taking. i hate it when the wrong people end up together just for a "happy" ending.

  11. Hi human, Misha,

The real icing on the cake will be knowing that you will just take it easy. You know that forcing your writing takes away from any natural flow.

Thus, I hope your public holiday was a peaceful one.

    Pawsitive wishes,

  13. I've been revising one project and working on writing the first draft of another. I go back and forth.

And I can just imagine the amount of concentration the cake decorating class takes. It's part of the reason I never bother to decorate any cake that's made in my house.

    Enjoy your downtime!

  14. Your cake decorating class sounds fun! Though if it's mostly chocolate cakes you're decorating, I don't know how you ever learn anything. If I were you, I'd be eating it all! ;)

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

  15. Trying to finish the first draft of a story. I'm at that place in the end where it makes me cranky to quit. Enjoy your day off tomorrow!

  16. Awesome. I've done cake decorating, and I love making all the frosting flowers that you freeze in advance, but I have terrible patience for getting and even spread of frosting across the actual cake. =)

Glad things are falling into a routine for you. I've been editing, and writing, and blogging, and house selling, and not sleeping. It's time for me to step into a time-free bubble and decompress. =)

  17. I'm in sort of a lull w/ my writing/editing right now but I've got a writing project for work that I need to get wrapped up within the next week and so I feel guilty whenever I'm not working on it---but I agree, I'll be much more productive on it if I give myself the rest of the night off and come at it fresh first thing in the morning.
