Serenity

It's amazing how important being serene and somewhat happy can be when it comes to my writing.

Sure, I'm not really happy about recent turn of events, but I'm no longer furious. Still... I'm not calm enough to write.

It feels as if something else is screaming in my head, drowning out my muse's whispers. I can't hear my characters at all today. Most people would think: Great! She's no longer an insane person! But since most of you are busy writing, I'm sure that you know why roaring silence bothers me.

Aah... how neatly this brings me to the point. Anyone agree with me when I say that it's a vicious circle? I'm not happy enough to write, so I can't, which makes me unhappier and makes the problem worse.

But... I have no idea how to solve the problem. I know that I have to keep writing, but I have nothing to write. And when I do manage to pen something down, I'm unhappy with that, making the problem even worse. So if anyone can give some advice, I'll thank you and love you for eternity. Promise.

  1. I usually just start writing, but not on any project that I have a vested interest in. I'll write a letter to someone I don't know, or describe an awful sensation, and as I write, I calm. Once I've entered the 'zone' I can switch over to writing something more useful.
This works for me most of the time. If not, there is always chocolate.

  2. That's great advice!

I always get so focused on my Works in Progress that I forget I can do something else instead.

    Thank you :-)

  3. You know, whenever I've got voices arguing in the back of mind that keeps me from sitting still, never mind writing, I usually go for a long, brisk walk. For some reason, walking helps me organize my thoughts and it makes me feel as if I've accomplished something. Once I get back home, I make either a cup of tea or coffee and then just sit down and write something, just to get started.

Hope this helps - the basic principle is to do something that clears your mind, a change of scenery at least.

    Good luck!

  5. Inspiration can come from a lot of different things. I know watching some of my favorite movies makes me want to do something as memorable and awesome! So it tends to motivate me to get back onto my WIP and write. But sometimes muses grow old. Then you need to find a replacement muse. But I find writing short stories and trying to get them into literary magazines gives me more inspiration for my novels, and pushes me into the swing of inspiration. Hope that helps and thanks for following me :)

  6. Hahaha Lola, I really must take a run... but I have this thing where whenever the desire to do so hits me, I grab a book and waits for it to pass :-P

thanks TJ that's really good advice! I don't really write short stories, so I'll definitely give it a shot. Attempting to get published is also a good thing, especailly if I succeed, since it looks good.... It's always a pleasure to follow interesting blogs. ;-)
